The History of Hunter’s

A lot has happened at Hunter’s over almost 40 years. Let’s take you through our history step by step.

The Birth of Hunter’s

Hunter’s began on a special day in 1985. That’s when a dog named Hunter marked his territory on Warmoesstraat. How? By simply lifting his leg! From that moment, Hunter’s owner knew: this was the perfect spot for a coffeeshop. Less than a year later, the first dose of cannabis went out the door.

Growth: Expansion Within the City

In the following years, Hunter’s grew significantly. Shops opened on Waterlandplein and Papaverweg in Amsterdam Noord. Each shop has its own unique advantages. The shop on Waterlandplein is surrounded by various dining options, making it ideal for a night out. The location on Papaverweg mainly attracts locals. There was also demand for a new branch in Amsterdam West, leading to Hunter’s opening on Orteliusstraat. It’s a central location, easily reachable by public transport. Get off at Mercatorplein, and it’s a two-minute walk to our shop.

Growth: Expansion Outside the City

After opening four branches in Amsterdam, it was time for Hunter’s to expand outside the city. This led to branches in Haarlem and Zandvoort.

In Haarlem, you’ll find us on Schoterweg. It’s a beautiful location that we highly recommend. Schoterweg attracts visitors from all over the world, so you’ll encounter a very diverse crowd in our shop. People from all countries come by, but our loyal local visitors are always there too.

Zandvoort

In Zandvoort, we’re located on Stationsstraat. This makes us easy to reach by public transport. If you visit us, take some time to explore this coastal town. It attracts thousands of visitors each year, and our shop is a popular stop!
